The reason I chose myself as the subject of my first major original drawing was because I thought it was a good way to reflect on my first year as a full time artist, as well as give me the momentum to pursue more originality in my artwork. The process of this drawing was intriguing. At first, I was second guessing drawing myself. I didn’t feel like I was justified in “putting myself next to” the iconic figures I have drawn. But, I realized that I never drew anyone for the purpose of venerating them, which took a lot of pressure and doubt away from drawing myself. In the end, I cherished this experience - and I’m glad I can share it with you.
